Mitigating costs of TiO2 whilst improving sustainability and not compromising quality

 
The functionality of TiO2 in coatings is discussed comparing its strengths and weaknesses in coating formulations. With costs and environmental concerns always forefront in the mind, the formulator faces ever increasing demands to produce cost-effective, high-performance coatings utilising TiO2 less and/or more efficiently. This paper describes the functionality of TiO2 composite pigments, the ongoing development of their structure and use, and their ability to reduce reliance on TiO2, improve colourant use and the potential to produce higher performance, more sustainable coatings.
